Whenever December arrives, my mind starts clicking. I start thinking about goals for the new year. I like to say goals, because the word "resolution" puts people off. I like routines and gold stars and checking boxes that things were done. Every few years I buy a new planner (binder) to keep track of these ideas and goals, along with deadlines, etc. This year was no different. I bought a beautiful Franklin Planner personal size in a light aqua color. This is a big change for me because I've always used their compact size. While there's ample room for all my "stuff", the weight it added to my purse made for an uncomfortable carry. This personal size is better, but it still adds a lot of weight to my shoulder burden.
The grandkids have all gotten sweaters this year; I'm working on the last one. My daughter's two kids got raglan pullovers (jumpers) knitted in gray wool. My son's kids got cardigan's, starting with the youngest (girl - purple) then brother (navy) and now the oldest (girl - cream). They were all knit from the same pattern, my go-to sweater pattern which is a leaflet that is now out of print.
I subscribed to Hello Yarn's roving of the month club this year, to keep me moving with my spinning. It's fun and a challenge to keep up with the monthly shipments, but I love it. New color combo's each month and a variety of breeds and blends.
Our back yard fence is still looking good and I keep moving things around as some plants flourish and some just maintain. There's always lots of silly neighborhood drama next door, on the other side of the fence. It's like they say, Good fences make good neighbors!
I have volunteered to be a part of a team that sews on Monday nights for charity. Ours is Samaritan's Purse. We use donated materials to make shorts and dresses for children who need clothes. You would be shocked at how much fabric is donated, all the time! I enjoy sewing at home, but cutting out patterns is really a challenge for my bad back. I can only go for so long, then I have to call it quits and rest.
Our big event for the year (hubby and I) is a kitchen renovation. New countertops, new stove and fridge. The process is enough to teach Job a thing or two about patience. Ugh. But, I will not complain. I am so blessed to even take on a project like this. We can only thank the Lord but making a way when so many are doing without. It's humbling really.
My schedule is pretty predictable so if something goes on my calendar, it will probably get done. I learned that somewhere. That if you want to be more productive, assign a date and time to a thing and be sure its posted in a place you check regularly. Lots os folks use their phone or kitchen calendar or computer. I still use a paper planner, or diary, as they say in the UK.
